Promoting Alternative Energy Use By Directly Affecting People

The use of alternative energy to be successful will require people from the root level to also use it. Campaigns about climate change and the harmful effects of carbon dioxide emissions is not doing much to convince everybody to use alternative energy. To better foster a transition, the benefits of using alternative energy have to be more direct.

Jobs connected to alternative energy have to be created for the household to directly benefit from it. People patronize things better if they are their source of livelihood. Local energy generation also have to be in place so that communities will be much more concerned about where their electricity is coming from. And the price of alternative fuels has to go down to the level that it will almost be ridiculous to buy fossil fuels.

Educating people about fossil fuels is also needed to prepare them for the jobs in the alternative energy sector. Degree courses have to be offered and education must not be limited to short courses, trainings and seminars. And, students, to be able to skillfully apply their knowledge, have to learn from professors who specialized in different specific fields.

In addition, more new technologies using alternative energy sources have to be introduced to the market. Massive information campaigns about the ease of using and maintaining alternative energy technologies have to be spread. Letting people know that other countries like Germany and Austria became successful in their alternative energy programs will help much in the campaign.

Talks about the future of our climate, like the recent UN Convention on Climate Change, will not bring about significant changes. Most governments will not largely implement environmental policies unless people are actually shouting or even begging that they have to be implemented. People, on the other hand, will not request for the changes unless they are directly affected. Something thoroughly good or destructively bad has to happen first before these green changes take place.
